cody for california

I’m Cody Painter and
I care deeply about the PEOPLE of California!

I’m planning to run for

California State Senate District 1

in 2026 & these are my priorities:

RESTORE POWER TO THE PEOPLE

Politicians are PUBLIC SERVANTS & must listen to the people! I will never take a single corrupt penny from corporations or the rich. I will fight to ban all money from California politics & enact ranked choice voting to break the back of the corrupt two-party system. Until the election, I will be traveling my district to LISTEN to voters & find out what they want from their leadership. Send me your thoughts below!

BOLSTER THE SOCIAL SAFETY NET

It's not news that California is expensive, but things have gotten completely out of hand! Unbought & unbribed, I will fight for common sense policy to redirect government spending away from corporate welfare & towards policies that will help struggling Californians: a living wage, affordable housing & universal health care. It's time that corporations contribute a fair share of their record-breaking profits.

ACCOUNTABILITY FOR CORPORATIONS

Corporations like PG&E are lighting our forests & homes on fire for profit while Nestle steals our precious water & real estate speculators drive more families out of the state every day. Most of California's politicians are on their payroll, which is why nothing ever changes! They need to be replaced so we can finally hold these dangerous corporations accountable for their damage. I will work for YOU to seek justice & redress from businesses abusing the public trust.

PROTECT CALIFORNIA'S FUTURE

There's no doubt about it, the climate is changing and working class Californians are the ones who suffer in every disaster. Voters deserve leadership that plans for the future. I will work to focus the government's attention on resilient food, power & water systems. We must also invest in our capacity to make essential products in California instead of relying on fragile supply chains & foreign markets for our stability & security.

MY STORY

I was born & raised in Nevada City, California. My working class parents struggled to make ends meet, but my amazing mother scrimped, saved & went without to give me the best chance she could. I took that chance & busted my butt; I was my high school Valedictorian, nailed the SATs & got a full-ride scholarship to the University of California, Santa Barbara. I graduated in four years with two degrees & high honors & spent a year abroad living in Tokyo, where I gained essential perspective about the world & my place in it.

I lived in San Francisco for about 15 years after college, working in a variety of service industry jobs & eventually picking up an MFA in New Media from the Academy of Art. My commitment to fight for truth & justice really solidified in my time there. But I never quite fit the culture of the city, due to my conservative small-town roots & humble beginnings. All kinds of people in this state need help & I strongly disagree with a focus on identity politics & virtue signaling for isolated causes. Instead, I prefer universal policies that are focused on putting a stable floor under everybody.

For the past ten years or so, I’ve been back in my hometown in District 1 trying to make a stable life for myself as a Landscaper & Graphic Designer. In this time I’ve seen my friends & family struggle time and again to afford food & housing. Everything in the region has shifted to cater to wealthy newcomers, while locals are left out in the cold… Property values & rents in my small hometown are now higher than Hawaii!

I’m so sick & tired of seeing the people of Northern California & our natural resources mistreated & neglected that I am driven to run for office to do something about it. With our quiet towns being taken over by rich city gentrifiers, our forests burning every year & our water being pumped down south to profit corporate agrobusiness…

IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE IN CALIFORNIA POLITICS.
